1961 Bullets

The Wizards are based in Washington, D.C. They are part of the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference. They began playing as the Chicago Packers in 1961. After only one year, they changed their name to the Zephyrs. In 1963 the franchise moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and became the Baltimore Bullets. The 1970-71 season ended with the Milwaukee Bucks winning the NBA Championship, beating the Baltimore Bullets in their first NBA FinalsIn 1973, the team moved to Landover, Maryland and became the Capital Bullets; to avoid confusion with the Washington Capitals, they changed their name to the Washington Bullets the following season. The Bullets have won the NBA Championship in 1978. A contest was held to choose a new name and the choices were narrowed to the DragonsExpressStallionsSea Dogs, or Wizards. In 1997, the Bullets officially became the Washington Wizards.
